The Czech Lacrosse Association successfully hosted the first International FIL event. The 8th Women’s World Lacrosse Cup was hosted in Prague this month; the first time it has been held in Europe outside of the UK.

Much praise should be bestowed on the organizing committee for not only hosting a memorable event but doing so in such adverse weather conditions. Heavy rain deemed 3 of the 5 pitches unusable; leaving 2 Astroturf’s to accommodate the remaining Cup games. The event seemed to run seamlessly even with the interruption of lightening breaks in the two semi final games. There was a general acceptance amongst players and spectators that the weather is beyond the control of event planning but this view point is only possible if there are realistic contingencies in place. A lesson 2010 will have to learn; not that it rains in Manchester.

In addition to the event organization praise must to be given for the web coverage of the World Cup. The Czech Lacrosse Association was able to bring the excitement of the event to all who were interested whether they made the trip to Prague or not.

To make a truly great event it is vital that the sporting spectacle more than mirrors the standard of organization, thanks to the 16 nations who competed this was never in question. Well done to all players who took part and good luck to those who hope to make the 2013 FIL Women’s Lacrosse World Cup.

Congratulations to the FIL and Czech Lacrosse Association for hosting such a great event, the benchmark has been set for 2010 and we must endeavor to raise the bar.
